Outreach Committee

Laura Walker-Ng - Volunteer Coordinator

Contact : ov-volunteer@cpaws.org

Laura has recently joined CPAWS as volunteer coordinator.  Laura's experience in fundraising, through various organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund, The Canadian Diabetes Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa, and the Music and Beyond Festival, allows her to boldly accept this new challenge.

Laura has a BA in Sociology from the University of Ottawa.   She is passionate about photography, well-being and nature and hopes to impart her dedication and enthusiasm onto others while drawing in new volunteers to CPAWS.

While keenly interested in the protection of green spaces, Laura intends to use her creative talents to lend a hand in the worthy pursuits of CPAWS.

Allison Forsythe – Media Coordinator

Contact : ov-outreach@cpaws.org

Allison Forsythe grew up in Windsor, Ontario, and moved to Ottawa for grad school. Thrilled by the National Capital Region’s green spaces and wildlife, she started working with CPAWS in March 2010 to get a better understanding of the issues that face Canada’s wild spaces and to learn more about what she (and everyone) can do to help protect them. Allison is a freelance writer and has been able to put her writing skills to use with CPAWS-OV by pitching CPAWS-related stories to local media (print and online) and helping with the “website revamp” project.

Happy to lend a helping hand for CPAWS events, Allison can be also seen around town hosting CPAWS information booths and promoting CPAWS activities (including the “Dare to be Deep” event and the upcoming Earth Day 2011 event). A self- described animal lover and tree-hugger, Allison has a particular weak spot for turtles and is determined to help protect their habitat. “One of the things that I like most about working with CPAWS is that I really feel as though I’m contributing to something,” she says. “Instead of just being frustrated by the threats facing Canadian wildlife, I’m part of an organization that is actively working to protect it. I’ll bet that there are a lot of people out there like me, who care about these issues but maybe aren’t sure where to start or what they can do; CPAWS provides them with the opportunity to learn more about what’s happening and then take action! “
