Join us for an evening of snowshoeing, stories and desserts in support of local conservation initiatives. We will gather at a secluded cabin in the woods near Mayo, Quebec and then explore some interesting trails through the forest that are usually closed to the public. Mid-way through our hike, on the top of one of the highest mountains in the area, we will take a break by a camp fire where we will learn more about this areas and plans for a nature school on the site before continuing our hike. At the end of the hike, you are invited to join us for complimentary hot chocolate (other beverages, such as tea and coffee will also be available) and desserts. This will be an ideal opportunity to learn more about CPAWS and how you can get involved.

The trails are intended for intermediate to advanced hikers, with some longer hills punctuated by a few steep sections of trail. The advantage is that the return part of the hike is all downhill! Bring your snowshoes and dress for the conditions. A flashlight or headlamp should be brought as well as some water or light snacks for the trail. Refreshments will be served at the end of the hike. Carpooling can be arranged from Ottawa contact us if you would like to offer a ride or if you are in need of transportation.

See you there!

Our hikes are offered on a rain or shine basis, unless dangerous weather is forecast to occur, please dress for the weather.

We ask for a donation of at least $5.00 per person to offset the cost of organizing the hike, but also to help raise funds for CPAWS Ottawa Valley conservation programs.

Snowshoe passes must be obtained for hikes in Gatineau Park. We are unable to provide them, but they may be obtained at the Gatineau Park visitors centre in Chelsea.

Planning to come? Let us know! We appreciate knowing approximately how many people will be joining us.  Please bring water and snacks for the trail, a camera, binoculars and extra socks / gloves are always useful.

Need snowshoes? Contact us, we may be able to provide a few pairs. If not, we recommend renting them at Mountain Equipment Co-op.
