Snowshoe under the stars! March 18, 2017
Join us on Saturday, March 18 for our second annual Snowshoe under the stars evening! Come see the forest from an entirely different perspective and learn about our nocturnal wildlife. March is a fascinating time of the year, as winter starts to retreat and spring species start appearing. We will explore some interesting trails and landscapes that are usually closed to the public, followed by a campfire, hot chocolate and some little dessert treats on the top of a local mountain before heading back to the the starting point.
The trail is intended for intermediate to advanced snowshoers and presents some steep sections and some long climbs. The good news is that the return part is all down hill! The entire hike is about 4 km, return.
Meeting place: Parking lot of St-Malachy's Catholic Church in Mayo, Quebec (3889, route 315 in Mayo, J8L 3Z8). We will carpool to the location from there.
Meeting time: 6:45 PM (at the church), we will drive to the trails together (5 minutes), end time, approximately 9:00-9:30 PM
Cost: Give what you can! A suggested donation would be of approximately $10.00 per person to offset the costs of the event would be appreciated, but not required.
What to bring: This is a night hike. We have a limited number of flashlights which can be borrowed or bring your own headlamp / flashlight, water and light snacks are recommended as are good boots and warm clothing. Snowshoes are required as the trail is not frequently used and therefore not well packed. We have a limited number of snowshoes which can be borrowed. Contact us to reserve a pair. CPAWS will provide some hot chocolate and a selection of small desserts and fruit at the campfire stop.
Are children welcome: Yes, but the trail is steep and presents some long hills.
