Ottawa Valley Calendars

Today the Ottawa Valley Chapter of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) announces the release of a one-of-a-kind calendar featuring stunning images of one of our region’s most beloved places – Gatineau Park. Proceeds from the sale of the calendar will help CPAWS continue its work to ensure that Gatineau Park is protected for future generations.

Featuring thirteen photographs by local photographers, all images in A Year in Gatineau Park were submitted as part of CPAWS’ community Gatineau Park photo contest.

You may be surprised to learn that Gatineau Park is neither a national nor a provincial park – it is essentially a large piece of property owned and managed by the National Capital Commission (NCC) – it is a park in name only. As a result of the lack of legislated boundaries and the other protections afforded by National Park status, Gatineau Park has seen its area shrink over time as lands are sold off or developed for commercial, industrial, residential and even institutional uses. The pending extension of Highway 5 to Wakefield along the park’s eastern boundary will further degrade the park’s fragile ecosystems.

By purchasing a calendar, you will be helping CPAWS work to ensure the park is managed first and foremost to restore and maintain its ecological integrity, to ensure that legal boundaries are provided and that legislation protects the park’s territorial and ecological integrity.

The calendar was made possible thanks to the efforts of countless volunteers who donated photographs, solicited sponsors and designed the final product. The printing costs were covered by conservation-minded local businesses, like Trailhead and VSP Printing and, as a result, 100% of the funds raised through calendar sales will be allocated to the CPAWS Ottawa Valley campaign to protect Gatineau Park.

Calendars may be purchased at a number of local stores. Here are of our vendors:

Copies may also be purchased online at www.cpaws.org/store or at the offices of CPAWS Ottawa Valley at 190 Bronson Avenue in downtown Ottawa.
