It’s that time of year again, when we give thanks: for that deliciously prepared meal on our dinner table, for the roof over our head, for the walls that shelter us from the cold, and for the friends and family in our lives who help us through the hard times and fill our lives with wonderful experiences.  Some of us around this time of year also give another kind of thanks: thanks to Mother Nature for the amazing opportunities we’ve been given to share this planet.

Summer 2012 may have given some of us a ‘rough go of it’, but even still, we must remember that we owe our entire existence on this planet to our natural surroundings. Literally! From the food we consume, to the water we drink, to the air we breathe, to the soil we plant our crops in and build our houses on…

Thank you to the trees for giving us their wood for our houses, furniture and our paper, the shade they provide in warmer weather and for cleaning the pollutants from our air.

Thank you to the various plants for providing us with food and for creating a habitat where life not only survives, but thrives.

Thank you to the animals that give the most generous of sacrifices ~ their lives ~ to help us survive and make us stronger.

Thank you to the lakes and streams for our drinking water, for supporting the life that lives within them and for their beauty.

If you have just been reminded about just how much we as humans take nature for granted, maybe now is the best time for us to reevaluate the way we live our lives.

It is important to acknowledge that we would fail to even exist if not for the generous grace of the natural world ~ where our trees, lakes and the living creatures of this planet deserve our protection, preservation and support  in the years to come!!

Consider what kind of contribution you can make to give back to Mother Nature, showing how truly thankful we are!
