Less than 5% of Quebec is currently protected against industrial development. Through the Quebec Protected Areas Strategy (SQAP), launched in 2000, the government's goal is to protect 8% of its territory in parks and other protected areas that are representative of Quebec's biological diversity. This initiative of creating new protected areas is a great opportunity for Quebec citizens to show that the protection of the environment is important to us and to play a role in the management of the land in which we live.
CPAWS-OV is working towards the establishment of a network of protected areas in the Ottawa River watershed as described in the following documents.
