Join us on Saturday, February 3rd at 1:00 PM for our annual Snowshoe Day!
I am looking forward to welcoming you to my family farm in Mayo, Quebec where we have developed several trails through mature and regenerating forests, along streams and through beaver meadows. This 4 km hike will take us to the summit of a couple of mountains offering sweeping views of the Ottawa Valley below. At the halfway point, a campfire, hot chocolate, and other homemade treats will be waiting for us. My team and I will be available throughout the afternoon to provide updates on our many conservation initiatives and, more importantly, on how you can get involved! I hope you will consider joining us.
John McDonnell, Executive Director at CPAWS-OV
Spaces are limited, reserve your spot now by contacting Reda at hike@cpaws.org.
Admission is free, but donations to support the work of CPAWS-OV are always appreciated.
What you need to know:
-CPAWS-OV has a limited number of snowshoes to loan to participants without snowshoes of their own, please reserve your pair by contacting Reda at hike@cpaws.org.
-There is a significant gain in elevation along this trail. It is best suited to those with some snowshoe or hiking experience. Snowshoes with grips or crampons are recommended. We also recommend poles if you have them. This will be a leisurely hike; we will make several stops along the way.
-We expect the hike to last about 3 to 3.5 hours, including the break at the halfway point.
-We will gather in the parking lot of St. Malachy’s church in Mayo (3889 route 315, Mayo, QC J8L 4J6), but the hike does not depart from there. Once all registered participants have arrived, we will travel as a group to the trailhead (approximately 10 minutes away). Carpooling is encouraged from there as space is very limited at the trailhead. We will be asking that cars park near the main road, you will need to walk about 300 meters from the parking area to the trailhead (uphill!). Outhouses are available at the trailhead.
-Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Please bring a re-usable mug for hot chocolate.
-Reservations are required, email Reda at hike@cpaws.org to register.
-We reserve the right to postpone the excursion in the event of inclement weather. Please check your email the morning of February 3 for any important updates.
