We are hiring two summer interns for 8 weeks each to help raise awareness of CPAWS Ottawa Valley’s work to protect public lands and waters in the Ottawa River watershed. Your job will consist of identifying and attending fairs and events in the communities of Ottawa and Gatineau, where you will be responsible for setting up an information display, engaging with visitors and asking people to consider signing our petitions to protect places like Gatineau Park, Algonquin Park and the Greenbelt. You will also help raise awareness of other programs and project areas, like Quebec’s Noire and Coulonge watersheds and Ontario’s Madawaska Highlands.
To be considered for this position, you should be outgoing and not afraid to approach people at fairs and events, be able to speak French and English, and be available on occasional evenings and weekends. You should also be very well organized, responsible (as you will be entrusted with material and supplies) and creative in how you set up displays to engage passers-by.
A knowledge of the community, in particular of community events, would be an asset.
This is a paid summer position for a period of 8 weeks, at 35 hours a week. The salary being offered is of $17.00 per hour.
