CPAWS Café with Candice Vetter – Hybrid event

We have another CPAWS Café planned for Thursday, April 24th from 7-8pm at the CPAWS National office in Ottawa (see address below). This event will feature Candice Vetter of Russell, Ontario, who will be talking about the issue of Quarry Lake and it’s precarious future.

Quarry Lake is Russell’s only lake, and it is owned by a private corporation that has previously expressed interest in making it a landfill, and more recently, making it a subdivision. Interestingly, this man-made quarry has become very ecologically and culturally significant in the region, and it is even home to several species-at-risk. Candice Vetter is a leader of the group “Save our Lake” who is fighting to preserve this natural area. The Quarry Lake issue raises interesting questions about the line between “natural” and “man-made” ecological features, and how perspectives toward them might differ. It will make for a great discussion!

For those who join in-person, we will have coffee, tea, and snacks! For those who join online, pour yourself a cuppa and join via the link below!
