Communications and Outreach Manager
The Ottawa Valley Chapter of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS-OV) is seeking a highly motivated, bilingual individual to join our team as Communications and Outreach Manager.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications and Outreach Manager is responsible for helping us tell our stories and engaging the broader community. The successful candidate will help elevate the profile of our organization, our programs, and our accomplishments through increased and elevated content for our digital platforms, newsletter, and social and mainstream media.
The successful candidate will develop and oversee the implementation of communications and outreach plans and strategies, content on the CPAWS-OV digital platforms such as the website, newsletter, and social media, support the execution of press releases, and coordinate the development of promotional material and reports. The Communications and Outreach Manager will also support the planning and delivery of certain events and conservation and engagement campaigns.
This position is for an individual with professional communication, marketing, outreach and engagement experience who can position our activities to raise the profile of CPAWS-OV and of the unique nature conservation opportunities which exist in our region. They will have practical experience with stakeholder engagement and management. Individuals with refined written and oral communication skills, in both French and English, exceptional attention to detail, and a creative mindset will excel in this role. Top candidates will have a combination of these skills and attributes with previous experience working within the non-profit, environment or community sectors. The individual will possess a post-secondary degree in Marketing and Communications or equivalent combination of education and experience and should also have the following:
- Minimum of 3 years in a marketing, communications or outreach role.
- Experience distilling technical (science and conservation) language for a general public audience.
- Experience delivering presentations to various groups.
- Proficiency with WordPress, Engaging Networks and e-Activist platforms.
- Proven experience in graphic design, including Adobe, Canva and other design tools.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience overseeing digital platforms such as Instagram, X, Facebook, and TikTok. Experience creating short videos and reels.
- Refined writing skills in French and English.
- Experience supervising/leading others, especially interns and volunteers.
- Experience creating promotional material and reports.
- Experience managing live streaming.
- Experience applying critical thinking skills in a high-paced environment.
- Ability to function in a multi-stakeholder environment.
- Knowledge of and/or previous involvement in the conservation and environment sector is considered an asset.
- Bilingualism (French and English) is a requirement, which will be tested.
- Ability to attend programs and events taking place in the field, including in remote locations or locations requiring some moderate difficulty hiking or walking to reach, in order to capture, for example, video or to interview staff and volunteers conducting field-based research or monitoring.
This position will require some travel in the Ottawa Valley region and weekend or evening hours. The nature of this work enables this position to be offered in a hybrid format, with the incumbent expected to be present in the organization’s Gatineau office at least 2-3 days per week.
Salary offered is $60,000 per annum. We offer three weeks of paid vacation in addition to a week’s long office closure between Christmas and New Year’s Day. We provide comprehensive medical and dental benefits and a generous RRSP matching program.
