Join us on Saturday, February 28 at 10:00 AM for an exclusive day of snowshoeing!
We are launching the 2026 season of our monthly educational nature walks! To start us off, John would like to invite you to a very special day of snowshoeing at his family property in Mayo, Quebec where a series of trails will take us on a journey through mature and regenerating forests, along a small stream, across a beaver meadow to a couple of stunning viewpoints overlooking the valley below. At the halfway point of this approximately 4.5 km trek, a campfire, hot chocolate, and other homemade treats will be waiting for us. The team will be available throughout the hike to provide updates on our many conservation initiatives and, more importantly, on how you can get involved!
Spaces are limited, reserve your spot now by contacting Jennifer at jhaughton@cpaws.org.
Admission: A small donation to support the work of CPAWS-OV is appreciated.
What you need to know:
-Snowshoes are required.
-CPAWS-OV has a limited number of snowshoes to loan to participants without snowshoes of their own, please reserve your pair by contacting Jennifer at jhaughton@cpaws.org
-There is a significant gain in elevation along this trail. It is best suited to those with some prior snowshoe or hiking experience. The trail has been packed, snowshoes with grips or crampons are recommended. We also recommend poles if you have them. This will be a leisurely hike; we will make several stops along the way but expect big hills.
-We expect the hike to last about 3 to 3.5 hours, including the break at the halfway point.
-We will gather in the parking lot of St. Malachy’s church in Mayo (3889 route 315, Mayo, QC J8L 4J6), but the hike does not depart from there. Once all registered participants have arrived, we will travel as a group to the trailhead (approximately 10 minutes away). Carpooling is encouraged from there as space is very limited at the trailhead. We will be asking that cars park near the main road, you will need to walk about 300 meters from the parking area to the trailhead (uphill!). Outhouses are available at the trailhead.
-Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Please bring a re-usable mug for hot chocolate. Please bring your own water and some personal snacks or a lunch.
-Reservations are required, email Jennifer to register.
-We reserve the right to postpone the excursion in the event of inclement weather. Please check your email the evening of February 27 for any important updates
