Join us for a spring hike along Jack Pine trail at Stony Swamp on Sunday, April 6th!

You are invited to join CPAWS-OV for a hike at the Stony Swamp Conservation Area located in the Southwest end of Ottawa on April 6th. During the hike, we will be doing some spring bird identification, so bring any materials you might find helpful! We have two pairs of binoculars to lend, but if you have any, make sure to bring your own. The Stony Swamp conservation area is known to house 251 regionally rare bird species!

What you need to know:

When: We will meet on April 6th, at 10:00am. Please be on time, we will start the hike promptly at 10:15am.

Where: We will be meeting at NCC parking lot P9 (free year-round parking) after which we will head out on Jack Pine Trail

Other details: With the snowmelt and spring conditions, we can expect to hit some areas of mud – please wear appropriate footwear! As mentioned above, please bring binoculars if you have them, although CPAWS-OV will have two pairs to lend out. We also recommend downloading the Merlin bird ID application, which our hike guide will be using to help with identification!

This hike will be in honour of National Wildlife Week in Canada. CPAWS-OV works hard to protect wildlife in the Ottawa Valley region by protecting the spaces that they require to survive. We are still campaigning to protect the National Capital Greenbelt, in which Stony Swamp is located, to safeguard the incredible species that depend on this area for survival. Although the hike is free of charge, as always, we appreciate any donations that you can manage. If you’d like to make a donation online, you can do so here!
