Connecting people with Nature

Educational programming

At CPAWS Ottawa Valley, we are dedicated to helping people connect with nature while getting to know more about the ecosystems around us and species with whom we share this beautiful landscape with. We hope that the more people learn about their surroundings, the more they will come to care for it and see why it is so important that we make sure green spaces are protected into the future.

We never stop learning! Age is just a number and there is always more to learn and explore. We have opportunities for everyone to get out and discover something new, whether in a grade school playground setting, within our youth program or on one of our educational hikes, find out how we can help you or your group get excited about nature!

Program Goals

  • Support efforts to shift learning outdoors through school outings,  interpretive programming, and on-site outdoor learning.
  • Expand knowledge of the Ottawa Valley’s wildlife, ecosystems and key topics in conservation through hands-on learning techniques and knowledge sharing
  • Do our part in educating the next generation of responsible stewards of our natural places and spaces.

What We Do

  • Animation of local nature excursions including age-appropriate nature-based learning activities, interpretive hikes and walks.
  • On-site outdoor education at your school or place of learning, using resources like nature-based activity kits.
  • Engage children in outdoor education through activity tables set up at festivals and venues.
  • Host nature-based programming for families and the general public.

“Only if we understand, can we care. Only if we care, will we help. Only if we help, shall all be saved.”

Hike series

We love hosting educational hikes in various locations from the Pontiac to the Gatineau Park, to the Greenbelt and beyond! With different themes looking at particular habitats, animals, seasonal changes and more, why not join in and see what there is to learn!

Starting at the end of February 2026, these will be held monthly and we hope to grow a community of curious minds and nature lovers.

If you have an idea for a location or theme to explore, we’d love to hear from you! Send Jennifer a message at jhaughton@cpaws.org

Keep an eye on our newsletter and social media channels to hear what’s coming up and find more details on particular hikes under events.
