Join us for our March edition of our educational hike series!

This month, we are exploring Ottawa’s Greenbelt including Stony Swamp. With a diversity of habitats including mixed forest, wetlands and open fields, it is one of the most biodiverse areas in Ottawa. As a result, the area supports a variety of wildlife, including birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles. Boardwalks offer great views of the surrounding wetlands, while some educational panels illustrate the biodiversity and history of the area including the lime kiln ruins.

We will start by meeting at Parking lot 8 (P8) at 9:00am. We will hike the Beaver Trail and Lime Kiln Trail and back which is approximately a 6km hike and should return around 12pm.

  • Date: Saturday, March 28th.
  • Time: We will meet at 9:00 am
  • Location: We will gather at Parking Lot 8 (NCC P8) on Moodie drive just south of Bell’s Corners and Hunt Club Rd.

Along the trails we hope to see some early migrants such as red winged blackbirds, yellow-bellied sapsuckers, and mallards as well as some year-round species such as woodpeckers and nuthatches. We might even spot some porcupines and possibly a barred owl.

Spaces are limited, reserve your spot now by contacting Jennifer at jhaughton@cpaws.org.

Admission: A small donation to support the work of CPAWS-OV is appreciated.

We recommend wearing proper footwear. Although the trail does not have major changes in elevation it is best suited for those with some prior hiking experience.

Outhouses are available at the parking lot.

Please bring your own water and some personal snacks or a lunch.
