Join us on Saturday July 25th for our next Wilderness Walk. This month we will be exploring Boucher Forest, a 700-acre urban forest situated in the heart of Aylmer. It is the second largest urban park in Gatineau and is home to over 1500 plant, fungal and animal species including some species at risk. Supports a wide diversity of ecosystems including wetlands and mixed forest, it includes the largest concentration of (endangered) butternut trees in the National Capital Region. Boucher Forest is also an important urban oasis for scientific research, amateur ornithologists and mycologists, and all nature lovers.
Boucher Forest is also the site for one our restoration projects. We are in the planning phase of restoring black ash, an important wetland species, to the area and will be planting 8000 saplings soon. For more information, check our our restoration webpage here.
